Kilian Technology and Testing

Kilian’s 3-D design and modeling provides several advantages. Kilian engineers can electronically send models to you for direct import into your design for form and fit evaluations. We also use 3-D models to create rapid prototypes to functionally evaluate each of our designs through the development phases. This also allows us to dynamically model a design's performance through Finite Element Analysis software as explained below.

Our engineering staff uses various design, analysis and simulation tools to virtually test and predict real-world behavior of new and existing product designs. These capabilities allow us to thoroughly analyze the design and its features in detail, saving time and money through rapidly implementation of design improvements and by reducing the number of prototypes required. This translates into our ability to make a better product at lower cost.

Kilian has designed and developed several dynamic test machines to simulate product performance under various application conditions. We can adjust application inputs, such as speeds (rotational or linear), loads (axial, radial or both), length of travel or oscillation to support developmental test requirements.

Kilian has been called upon countless times to perform in-house testing to validate new materials, test the likelihood of success for a new application design and support all our own continuous improvement initiatives.

Compressive or tensile loading, along with bending or shearing, are test examples that can be performed in-house by Kilian. Such tests allow us to empirically validate the ability of our designs to withstand certain loading conditions or to compare the response of various materials. Professional output graphs enable us to clearly show the performance or comparison being requested.

Kilian has its own metallurgical evaluation and damage analysis laboratory. Product features such as hardness, case depths, grain structures and microscopic evaluation and measurements are easily accomplished on-site to provide customers with timely, accurate feedback.

Hot chamber testing with temperature capabilities up to +250º C is available on-site for product evaluation. Material response, effects of thermal expansion, lubrication performance and design torque can be accomplished within this chamber.

Testing designs down to -40º C is no problem. Bearing torque or select product performance evaluations at these low temperatures are benefits derived from this cold chamber. If you have an application that requires product testing below -40º C, Kilian can support these tests. Please contact our engineering team, [email protected] for more information.
